Social Firms UK 2011 AGM

This year's Social Firms UK AGM was held at Action Acton's business workspace centre, the Doughnut Factory.
50 Social Firms UK members and businesses from across the country heard about the progress made in 2010/11 and the challenges for the forthcoming year. Sarah Dunwell from CREATE Foundation CIC in Leeds also outlined the rapid development of her Social Firm and inspired those present with the entrepreneurial approach that's been taken to scale up employment opportunities for homeless people through their food business.
The Social Firm movement is needed more than ever in these challenging times.
Sally Reynolds, Social Firms UK Chief Executive, said "we need more and more Social Firms to be set up and run by entrepreneurs who are prepared to reinvest back into the social mission of creating sustainable paid employment for severely disadvantaged people. The Social Firm business model is the only one which focuses on this outcome and, at a time when people with barriers to the labour market are increasingly less likely to be able to compete for the fewer numbers of jobs available, it's a crucial solution to a haemorraging social problem. It's members like Action Acton who are determined to help us in this quest and we're delighted to have held our AGM at The Doughnut Factory."
